How to print, scan, and fax using both comprehensive Full Feature drivers and basic in-OS drivers.

Use the following steps to scan a general document or image.

Step one: Load the photo or document

You can scan from the scanner glass or from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) tray, if your product has one.
1.       Make sure that the product is connected to the computer.
2.      Turn the product on.
3.      Load the picture or document:

Scanner glass: Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass (usually on the right-front corner or the left-front corner). Close the scanner lid.

ADF: Place the item into the document feeder tray. The printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the width guides to fit the item.
CAUTION: Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos.

Step two: Scan the item

1.      Open the HP Scan window with one of the following methods.

From the Start Screen, click or tap the app for your printer, click or tap Print & Scan, and then click or tap Scan a Document or Photo.

From the Desktop, double-click or double-tap the icon for your printer, click or tap Print & Scan, and then click or tap Scan a Document or Photo.

2.      Select the appropriate scan option for the item you are scanning.
3.      In the HP Scan window, to the right of each scan option there are default recommended settings for scan size, output type, resolution, and file type (for text scans only). Use these default settings unless you need to customize the settings for your scan.

Missing Color, Wrong Color, or Streaks in the Printout

Issue

The printer is working, but the colors in the printed output are not the expected colors. The output might look as if only one color printed, a color did not print at all, the wrong colors printed. There might be streaks or lines in the printout.
Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.

Step one: Check the cartridges, and then check the paper

Follow these steps to make sure that your cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and that you are using appropriate paper for your print job.
  1. Check your cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality of remanufactured or refilled cartridges.
  2. Check your paper type. Paper that does not accept ink well can cause printed images to smear or bleed. Plain paper is not the best choice for high-density graphics. Step two: Print a test page
If your cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and the paper is appropriate for your print job, follow these steps to print a test page.
  1. Load the product with clean, plain white paper
  2. Evaluate the test page. Different printers produce different pages, but you should recognize elements from these examples on your test page. In general, cartridge and printer problems are indicated by streaks, missing colors, or wrong colors.
      • If your test page looks like these examples, the product and cartridges are probably not the cause of the problem.
      • Examples from a failing product or cartridges - streaked or broken bars or lines
      • If your test page looks like these examples, you probably have a cartridge in which the inks have mixed.

HP LaserJet Pro 400 MFP M425 - Control Panel Message Document (CPMD)

Control panel message types

The control panel messages indicate the current product status or situations that might require action.

Alert and warning messages appear temporarily and might require you to acknowledge the message by pressing the OK button to resume or by pressing the Cancel button to cancel the job. With certain warnings, the job might not complete or the print quality might be affected. If the alert or warning message is related to printing and the auto-continue feature is on, the product will attempt to resume the printing job after the warning has appeared for 10 seconds without acknowledgement.

Critical error messages can indicate some kind of failure. Turning off and then turning on the power might fix the problem. If a critical error persists, the product might require service.
